Hyundai will soon be joining the likes of Ford and Fiat by offering a new music and information interface developed jointly with software giant Microsoft. To enable that collaboration, the two companies have announced the founding of a dedicated Automotive IT Innovation Centre (AIIC) with the aid of Korea’s Institute for IT Advancement.

The Perodua Myvi, Honda City, Honda Civic and Toyota Innova each rank highest in initial quality in Malaysia in their respective segments, according to the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2008 Malaysia Initial Quality Study (IQS) released.

The study, now in its second year since being redesigned in 2007, examines new vehicle quality during the first two to six months of ownership. The study measures more than 200 problem symptoms covering eight vehicle components: vehicle exterior; driving experience; features/controls/displays; audio/entertainment/navigation; seats; HVAC; vehicle interior; and engine/transmission. All problems are summarized as the number of problems reported per 100 vehicles (PP100), with lower scores indicating a lower rate of problem incidence and higher quality.

Graco’s new series of SD electronic meters has been engineered to higher levels of performance and reliability. The new SDM15 and SDP15 meters feature high flow rates (14.0 gpm, 53.0 lpm) for faster dispense times. The SD Series also includes an offering at lower flow rates, which include the new SDM5 and SDP5 meters that feature flow rates up to 5.0 gpm (18.9 lpm). This Series features preset models that include the capability to program up to three preset settings, improving technician productivity. Global auto major Toyota Motor Corp plans to introduce its hybrid sedan Prius in India as an answer to soaring fuel prices and growing concerns over emissions, a top official at its Indian joint venture said.

“We are preparing to bring Prius into the Indian market though we have not set any timeline yet,” Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd vice-chairman Vikram Kirloskar told IANS in an interview.

General Motors and 34 utilities have agreed to collaborate with the Electric Power Research Institute on research and development to facilitate integration of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles into the power grid. Plug-in hybrids can average nearly 100 miles per gallon using a combination of electricity and gasoline.

The collaboration was announced today in San Jose at the Plug-in 2008 Conference - the first convention and expo to explore technical advances, challenges and market research on electric transportation.
