The 16th annual Greenwood Car Show on Saturday, the annual show featured a section of more than 20 electric cars and trucks, some advertising their environmental friendliness with vanity plates (”ECO MAN”) and bumper stickers.
Electric vehicle enthusiast Jeff Finn estimates he spent about $13,000 converting his Chevrolet Geo to run on electricity. Now it’s packed with 21 golf-cart batteries, has a top speed of about 70 mph and can easily go for 30 miles at a time.
Greenwood Avenue North was blocked off from North 70th to North 87th streets, lined on both sides with classic cars and packed with people, baby strollers and dogs. Most cars had their hoods or trunks propped open, and some even had mirrors lined up under the front to show off the shiny chrome undercarriage.
The event had the feel of a street fair, with food stands, live music and craft booths. Some enterprising souls capitalized on the day’s 89-degree heat by hawking bottled water and sodas at inflated prices.
