Five thousand helmets will be distributed in the Dominican Republic in an effort to curb its alarming rate of motorcycle-related deaths.

The joint initiative by New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the Universitario José María Cabral Báez in the Dominican Republic was announced yesterday in Washington Heights.
