Toyota Prius has been awarded the leading overall vehicle for the second year running in the 2008 J D Power and Associates survey in France.The Japanese car got 867 points, gaining 9 points in comparison with the previous year, and with 34 points more than the second car in the rankings its lead has increased by 31 points.

Korean car maker Hyundai Motor Corporation is planning develop its own hybrid technology that run on alternate fuels to counter the soaring oil prices. The company will initially manufacture hybrid variants of Accent, Sonata and Avante sedans in Korea and later introduce them in India.

Auto manufacturers are at least a year or two away from launching the next generation of hybrids, called plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), that recharge by plugging into a wall outlet. But battery companies are ready to start selling aftermarket kits within the next few months that convert hybrids, and in some cases regular vehicles, into plug-in electric cars.

The 16th annual Greenwood Car Show on Saturday, the annual show featured a section of more than 20 electric cars and trucks, some advertising their environmental friendliness with vanity plates (”ECO MAN”) and bumper stickers.
Electric vehicle enthusiast Jeff Finn estimates he spent about $13,000 converting his Chevrolet Geo to run on electricity. Now it’s packed with 21 golf-cart batteries, has a top speed of about 70 mph and can easily go for 30 miles at a time.

Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit launched India’s first electric car in Delhi which has been developed after 13 years of research and development. She described it as “the cute little car” and stated that it was a green day for the city. She also stated that she has been using this car for small distances and the car is her personal preference. She called out to all those people who own several cars and urged them to own atleast one Revan in the view of its environment friendly attributes.

A new electric vehicle dealership has opened in town just months after the Green Vehicles showroom closed at 33 N. Santa Cruz Ave. Daniel Reuter, though, has a different business plan.
For one, Reuter, the owner of Ethical Approach Auto Sales, does not have to pay the high rents charged to downtown merchants because he has entered into a partnership with Akeena Solar. “It’s in both of our interests to promote each other’s products,” Reuter said.
