Kia Motors Corporation pulled the covers off its latest design statement in New York. Originating from the Kia Motors America Design Centre in Irvine, California, the striking KOUP concept truly demonstrates Kia’s ‘Power to Surprise’.

The two-door KOUP was a surprise reveal at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) and firmly illustrates the shape and evolution of future Kia vehicles.

Kumho has completed the construction of a 315,000 sq metre Vietnamese tyre factory, in which it has invested $200 million. The plant will initially manufacture some 3.15 million tyres per annum, but there is provision to expand production to 13 million units.

With the new plant on stream, Kumho expects its 2008 international tyre production levels to total c.34 million units, thereby exceeding its domestic output (c.31 million units) for the first time and creating a worldwide total of c.65 million units. The Indian tyre market may become more competitive in 2008-09. The State-run MMTC Ltd has finalised plans to market Chinese truck-bus tyres in India. The imports including both cross-ply and radial tyres are expected to begin as early as April. Plans for import of raw material for the tyre manufacturing sector are, however, yet to be firmed up.

Set to emerge as the first major outfit to start importing tyres in India, the Rs 23,000 crore MMTC is planning to grab 15-20 per cent share of the 1.2 lakh import market for bus tyres in the country.

(AFP) — Michelin, one of the world’s leading tyre makers, on Friday hiked prices and said that from now its charges for auto manufacturers would be indexed against the cost of oil.

“From April 1, the price of (Michelin) tyres will be adjusted each time the price of a barrel of Brent (North Sea) oil moves by five dollars (3.24 euros),” a company spokesman told AFP without specifying the immediate impact on prices.

“This framework, which can evolve, will apply to tyres for cars and vans sold to vehicle manufacturers and not in the retail sector,” he said. » Read the rest of the entry..

Scooters are becoming an economical alternative but riders are concerned about safety when it comes to sharing the road.

Kim Morris, a resident of Carolina Beach, said,”This is a light bike. If we get hit by a car, the car is gonna win.”

Like bicycles, there is no minimum speed limit for scooters and the law requires following traffic to keep a safe distance.

The Reef Rider sea scooter looks pretty cool, but believe me there is one very big catch. It can only go down as deep as three meters, which makes it next to useless for recreational diving. That is perhaps the compromise that you have to make for buying such a cheap sea scooter. On the other hand, there is plenty of good snorkeling to be had at those depths and if you are looking for something that you can mess around with in very shallow dives it could be good.
