The BMW F 800 ST’s Spec Sheet

While boxer engines have a prominent place in BMW’s history, the BMW F 800 ST sport touring motorcycle is equipped with a parallel twin powerplant. The F 800 ST’s 798cc displacement puts it squarely in the middleweight category. While the F800 ST wears a fairing, its stablemate, the F 800 is a naked bike.

New Yorkers are once again helping people in the Dominican Republic.

New York Presbyterian Hospital officials are donating 5,000 motorcycle helmets to the island nation. Motorcycle accidents are the leading cause of death among working aged men in that country, where helmets are rarely worn.

Health advocates and local lawmakers say the gift is sending a clear message that wearing a helmet saves lives.

After years of ignoring interiors in favor of horsepower, Detroit is finally discovering its inner beauty

Finally, it seems Detroit is figuring out what Japanese and European automakers have known for years: Inner beauty is the path to success.

For too long U.S. automakers kept costs down by focusing more on what was under the hood than on what was under the roof. They believed if their typical buyer had to choose between horsepower and design aesthetics, the ponies would always win. The resulting interior of the average American car was a bland expanse of poorly fitting, low-quality plastic and cheap chrome.

IN recent seasons, a new fashion accessory has become a must-have for the debutants of the auto-show circuit. No automaker introduces a new concept car, it seems, before dressing it up with L.E.D. jewelry.

Light-emitting diodes are replacing the car’s trusty glass light bulbs much as compact fluorescents are replacing Edison’s ancient incandescents in home lamp sockets. L.E.D.’s are longer lasting, more compact and consume less electricity.

BMW GROUP RECOGNIZED FOR EXCELLENCE IN DESIGN

The odds are slim that any Chinese manufacturers will begin selling cars in the United States before 2009 at the soonest. But Hyundai, the world’s sixth-largest automaker, has been marketing cars here for two decade, and it once again impressed pundits at the show with its latest offerings.

Mazda Motor Corporation has announced the launch of the fully remodelled Mazda Atenza, also known as Mazda6 overseas. The redesigned Atenza now comes in both a hatchback and sports wagon body styles. With Sedan, Sport (5-door hatchback), and Sport Wagon, Mazda’s mid-size car will go on sale at all Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealerships throughout Japan.
